Duchifestation

Dictionary entry

Duchifestation — An authorised Crestignacian act whose successful outcome is simply that it has taken place, regardless of motive, opinion or opposition.

Feminine noun · Crestignacian.

Pronunciation (French IPA): /dy.ʃi.fɛs.ta.sjɔ̃/
Approximate English pronunciation: doo-shee-fes-ta-SYON

Definition

An individual or collective act, whether internal or external, consisting of duchifesting in favour of, against, or without an opinion about a person, institution, company, animal, object, decision, phenomenon, situation or anything else whatsoever.

One may also duchifest without an object or a reason — to duchifest for nothing — a particularly refined form of elegance in Crestignac.

Purpose and fundamental principle

The sole purpose of a duchifestation is to take place. Its intrinsically positive outcome is the completed duchifestation. It does not seek to demand any consequence or change: the duchifestant seeks nothing beyond the accomplishment of the act itself.

“The sole purpose of a duchifestation is to take place. Its successful outcome is the fact that it has taken place.”

Opposition

Duchifestants may remain fiercely opposed. Their positions need not be reconciled; their expected outcomes are nevertheless compatible, since each side completes its own duchifestation. Duchifestation is thus a pillar of Crestignacian society and a means of resolving contradictory outcomes without abolishing disagreement.

“Two opposing groups may remain irreconcilably opposed while both achieving their desired outcome: each has successfully completed its own duchifestation.”

Procedures

Authorisation is required under Crestignacian rules. A duchifestation may be solitary or collective, internal or external, in favour, against, without an opinion or without an object. It may be restricted to a designated time slot.

Examples

“I duchifested from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. My duchifestation was successfully completed.”

“Two opposing groups duchifested. Both achieved their expected result.”

“She duchifested for nothing, with considerable elegance.”

Word family

To duchifest; autoduchifestation.

Linguistic note

The prefix duchi- misleadingly evokes the Duchess, although a duchifestation need not concern her in any way. Its object is freely chosen, or may be absent altogether.

Transmission

Monsieur Buskin teaches duchifestation to young Crestignacians:

“Let us duchifest! Let us educate the young in the art of duchifestation!”
